One of Lake Tahoe’s most popular trails is getting a 2-mile extension

A hugely popular trail skirting the eastern edge of Lake Tahoe will be expanded by nearly 2 miles with an infusion of $24 million in federal funding that was approved last week.

Built just five years ago, the Tahoe East Shore Trail traces a remote stretch of narrow highway 3 miles from Incline Village, Nev., south to the summertime destination of Sand Harbor State Park. A mix of pavement and smooth-surface bridgeways suspended just above the lake’s crystalline water, the trail quickly became a favorite of walkers and bicyclists…
