Celebrating National Dog Day Here on the Suncoast

National Dog Day, celebrated annually on August 26th, was founded in 2004 by animal advocate Colleen Paige. The day was established to recognize the unconditional love and loyalty dogs bring into our lives and to raise awareness about the plight of dogs in shelters. It’s a day to celebrate all breeds, mixed and pure, and to acknowledge the importance of providing homes and care to those in need.

There are countless fun and meaningful ways to celebrate National Dog Day! Start by spoiling your pup with a special treat or a new toy—after all, they deserve it! You can also spend extra time at the dog park or go on an adventure to a new trail, giving them the chance to explore and enjoy the outdoors. If you’re looking to give back, consider volunteering at a local shelter or making a donation to a dog rescue organization. For those who don’t yet have a furry friend, today might be the perfect opportunity to adopt a dog in need of a loving home.
