Perfect Bills backup quarterback suddenly available thanks to Patriots

The Buffalo Bills have the right guy in the franchise quarterback role but it’s the backup position that could use some help right now. Mitchell Trubisky re-signed with the team this offseason after spending the 2021 season backing up Allen.

Trubisky was injured during the Bills’ preseason game against the Steelers and it felt like he’d miss some time after suffering that injury. That being said, the Bills opted to release Ben DiNucci ahead of the roster cut deadline, so that could be a sign that Trubisky isn’t as beat up as previously thought.

If the team decided to go in another direction regarding quarterback depth, why not look toward a recent cut made by a division rival? The New England Patriots released Bailey Zappe ahead of the cut deadline and Zappe could be a nice depth piece for the Bills to have. Plus, there’s the added bonus that he has a lot of knowledge about the Patriots…
