RICHMOND, Va. (WWBT) -The KavaClub is back in the hot seat. The Virginia Health Department issued a cease-and-desist letter after a recent event held by Riffs and Recovery, a support group for musicians in recovery.
This comes after the non-alcoholic bar opened in February following the VDH denying their permit to open.
VDH claims KavaClub is at risk of violating a consent decree by promoting kava, a psychoactive substance similar to green tea, to people trying to stay sober.
Owner Fred Bryant believes what VDH is really trying to do is shut them down…
