ALBANY, N.Y. ( NEWS10 ) — A local school hosted a special celebration on Tuesday in honor of their teachers. The International Program at the Albany Academies held a cookout in recognition of International Teacher Appreciation Day.
It started as a tradition in China where teachers are seen as family. Educators said holding the event early in the school year helps teachers connect with their students.

“This is something great for them to build relationships with their teachers, to chat with their teachers in an informal environment so that they feel relaxed and share the culture and experiences with their teachers,” Albany Academies International Program Dir. Dr. Jessica Chen said.
