Scattered strong storms with high mountain snow

SALT LAKE CITY ( ABC4 ) – Happy Tuesday, Utah! A strong cold front brought cooler temperatures, heavy rain, severe storms, and mountain snowfall.

Our strong area of low pressure is moving across northern Utah this afternoon, leading to more widespread showers and storms along and north of I-80. A few storms could be strong with gusty winds up to 60 mph, small hail, and lightning.

It’s also been a much cooler afternoon. Daytime highs are only going to warm into the mid to upper 60s for northern Utah, and southern Utah will see highs in the 70s and low 80s as well with highs near 80 degrees for St. George through Friday.

A second low will develop along the Pacific Coast by Wednesday and track eastward into Utah by Friday, bringing the chance for additional showers and storms, especially in northern and western areas.

Models are not too excited about widespread rain with this system, as they are starting to track it slightly further south, but still expect cooler-than-normal conditions to continue through Friday and the weekend…
