Russian Town Evacuated After Drone Attack

Additional Coverage:

Overnight, a barrage of drones targeted Russia’s Tver region, near Moscow. The attack forced the partial evacuation of a town and the closure of schools and kindergartens in a nearby area.

According to local media, the attack involved strikes on ammunition storage facilities, causing explosions. Governor Igor Rudenya ordered residents of Toropets, where the fire was ongoing, to be relocated 30 miles away.

Air defense systems repelled the attack, resulting in a fire from drone wreckage, Rudenya said. However, he later called for a partial evacuation due to ongoing air defense operations and the containment of the fire.

Footage on social media showed explosions and smoke plumes, which were attributed to detonations at Toropets arms depots. Ukraine’s Presidential Office head, Andriy Yermak, stated that the attack was part of Russia’s "demilitarization."

Ukraine’s Special Services reportedly stated that the operation was conducted by Ukrainian military intelligence, security services, and special operations forces. The target was warehouses storing missiles and ammunition.

Russian authorities confirmed a drone attack on multiple regions, including Kursk, Bryansk, and Smolensk, but made no mention of Tver.
