State plans to appeal possible $17.5M withholding of federal school aid

ANCHORAGE, Alaska (KTUU) – The state will appeal the U.S. Department of Education’s threat to withhold $17.5 million from Alaska schools, Department of Early Education leaders said Wednesday after the federal government said the state did not provide proper pandemic funding to four state schools who they say needed it most during COVID.

“The issue is that they have determined that Alaska doesn’t have an equitable formula,” DEED Commissioner Deena Bishop told Alaska’s News Source.
