CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — Magnificent frigatebirds, known for their distinctive appearance and expert flying abilities, have been spotted along the Texas coast.

These birds, identified by their long black wings and forked tails, are not uncommon in the region. Juvenile frigatebirds have white heads, while adults sport black heads. With a wingspan of 90 inches (228 cm) and a weight of only 3-4 pounds (1.4-1.8 kg), these birds are adept at gliding over the open ocean for hundreds of miles, according to the press release.

Their hooked bills contribute to their sinister appearance, and their behavior reinforces this image. Magnificent frigatebirds are notorious for stealing food from other seabirds, earning them nicknames such as pirate birds or Man-o-War birds…
