PEKIN (25News Now) – Pekin is getting a new parish center, made possible by $4 million in donations from St. Joseph Catholic Church parishioners.
While this has been 10 years in the making, Friday was the official groundbreaking for the construction project. Parishioners who have donated to the project came to the building sit to celebrate.
The finished building will be around 10,000 square feet, with a large gathering space for parishioners and offices for church staff. Students at St. Joseph Catholic School will also use the space.
“Our old building no longer fits our needs, and we’ve needed the space, so this is a really momentous part of the journey that we’re here [Friday] kicking off the construction that starts next week,” said Bill Fleming, Chair of the St. Joseph Building Committee…
