California firefighter accused of starting five ‘extremely destructive’ fires over month-long period

A California firefighter is under arrest on Friday after allegedly starting several fires in Northern California in a season that already seen record breaking temperatures and extremely destructive wildfires.

Robert Hernandez, 38, a fire apparatus engineer with Cal Fire, the primary state-wide agency, was arrested on suspicion of starting five fires on forest lands near the towns of Geyserville, Healdsburg and Windsor between Aug. 15 and Sept. 14. The fires were small and did not spread to become significant incidents, burning less than an acre of land combined, due to local residents and firefighters acting quickly to stop the spread.
