Parks and Recreation Board signals disapproval of jet ski rentals

The Evanston Parks and Recreation Board expressed disapproval of jet ski rentals on the lakefront and voted unanimously during its Thursday night meeting to begin requiring life jackets at the Dempster Street Launch during boat launches.

The city’s Lakefront and Athletic Division Manager Tim Carter came to present and discuss the subjects.

Carter explained that city rules on life jackets only require those under 12 years of age to wear them during boat launch, and it is difficult for lifeguards to enforce. The risk of capsizing is also higher in the kinds of non-motorized vessels that launch from Dempster Street Launch…
