MONTGOMERY, Ala. (WSFA) – According to the Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency, there’s over 80,000 missing U.S. military members since World War II, with close to 1,300 from Alabama.
A ceremony was held to mark POW/MIA recognition day, with dozens flooding the Alabama State Capitol’s south lawn to show up for those that are no longer able to.
Retired Air Force Brigadier General and current Alabama Department of Veterans Affairs Assistant Commissioner Jeff Newton gave the keynote address, telling stories of immense courage that serve as a reminder of just how much sacrifice it can take from those that serve to protect their country…
