‘F—k John Fisher!’: Green Day, Rancid use SF concert to pan A’s move to Vegas

As the Oakland Athletics played their last Friday night game at the Coliseum , two of the East Bay’s most successful bands used their The Saviors Tour stop at Oracle Park in San Francisco to call out the team owner for the relocation .

“We don’t take no s—t from people like John f—king Fisher, who sold out the A’s to Las f—king Vegas!” Green Day frontman Billie Joe Armstrong told the 40,000-plus people in the stadium. “I f—king hate Las Vegas! It’s the worst s—thole in America. Can you feel me?”

The inside-baseball commentary came near the end of the band’s two-hour set, which featured the entirety of their 30-year-old third album “Dookie” and 2004’s “American Idiot,” which was released almost exactly 20 years ago to the day, as well as an opening song called “The American Dream Is Killing Me” from the current album “Saviors.”

Green Day, now a world-famous punk band with multiplatinum- and diamond-selling albums, began, of course, in the East Bay. Armstrong and co-founder Mike Dirnt attended Pinole Valley High School, and their first band was named Sweet Children. Decades later, Green Day’s The Saviors Tour has played stadiums across the country with the support of Rancid, the Smashing Pumpkins and the Linda Lindas. (The U.S. run ends Sept. 28 in San Diego.)…
