Clemson DL TJ Parker decries ‘hot-headed’ NC State OT Anthony Belton for spitting on Tré Williams

Officials ejected NC State offensive tackle Anthony Belton in the second quarter of Clemson’s 59-35 win over the Wolfpack on Saturday after he received an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty for “spitting on an opponent.” Clemson defensive lineman TJ Parker beat Belton for a sack prior to the ejection and claimed the NC State lineman punched him before spitting on teammate Tré Williams.

“I knew he was already heated,” Parker said regarding Belton’s ejection. “He was trying to fight somebody. I got a sack. He was talking crazy. All I needed was for him to swing on me, and he swung on me. I let him hit me. He had to leave. It’s all about playing in their head. When you are making plays, they don’t like that and are hot-headed. He did what he had to do and it turned out bad for him. Tré Williams got spit on. That’s embarrassing for the offensive lineman.”

Reporters asked NC State coach Dave Doeren for comment on Belton’s ejection after the game. Doeren said he was “disappointed” in Belton, even after the veteran lineman told him a Clemson player spat on him first…
