Photo Gallery: Greek Festival brings the Mediterranean to Columbia

Kali orexi! Often said before meals in Greece, it translates to “good appetite” in English and could be a good way to start a visit to a big event happening in Columbia this weekend.

The 37th annual Greek Festival started Thursday and continues through Sunday, and while it isn’t all about food, the menu is definitely a big part of what brings thousands of attendees year after year.

The festival is hosted by Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Cathedral, and hosting means much more than just opening the church and surrounding grounds at 1931 Sumter St. in downtown Columbia. Members of the congregation work hard to prepare for and staff the big event, including doing a lot of cooking. With their help along with that of other volunteers, the festival has raised more than $400,000 for charity in recent years…
