Dark clouds sweep across D.C. area as rain falls in spots

Dark clouds swept eastward across the D.C. area Saturday evening, appearing so steeped in ominousness, so suggestive of storminess, that it seemed almost possible to feel rain without actually seeing any.

At 7 p.m., the National Weather Service reported a thunderstorm at or near Dulles International Airport. The amount of rain measured in an hour around then was a minimal .01 inch.

But with the almost-spectacular darkness of the clouds, it seemed possible that more might fall or have fallen before the storm moved on to the east…
