SACRAMENTO, Calif. — Gov. Gavin Newsom signed a bill into law this week that would give renters an opportunity to be rewarded for keeping up with their monthly rent payments.

Assembly bill 2747 will now require landlords to give their tenants the option of reporting their on-time, positive rent payments to a credit bureau agency.

Newsom’s office explained how millions of renters around the state pay their rent on time, but never see a positive impact on their credit scores. However, whenever someone falls behind or misses a payment it negatively affects their credit report and lowers their score…
