Simone Cox

Our beloved friend Simone Cox died unexpectedly in her sleep at her home in Sedona, AZ on March 23, 2024. Simone came to California to attend Stanford in 1974 from Columbus GA. She was raised in the echoes of segregation there and said she was too black for the white kids and too white for the black kids. At Stanford there were no impediments to her outgoing personality, exuberance and vibrant energy. She was the lead in many plays and musicals and was a Dolly in 1977-78. She graduated in 1978 with a degree in Mass Communications and attended every reunion she could thereafter. Simone’s passion was singing and she was a phenomenal vocalist who could perform blues, jazz, rock and roll and show tunes like a pro. Her acting at Sanford and then with Theatreworks in Palo Alto included the leads in a gamut of plays, evincing heart wrenching performances in dramas to guffaws in comedies.
