As I travel across my district, all eyes are on Central California’s alarming wildfire season following the onset of the Borel, Blue and Turbine fires. California is already facing an intense wildfire season marked by the Park Fire, which is currently the state’s fourth-largest wildfire in history. Couple those events with increased vegetation and prolonged heatwaves, and you have the perfect recipe for disaster.
Gov. Gavin Newsom’s emergency proclamation to secure state resources for Borel Fire recovery is not good enough. It’s critical for the governor’s office to address the causes of wildfires with the same urgency as the aftermath.
