The design of Robinson+Cole’s month-old law offices atop the One State Street tower in downtown Hartford passed a critical test the Friday before the long, Labor Day weekend: employees were still in the office, even in the afternoon.

“When we normally close at 3 o’clock to let our people start the holiday early, there were a lot of people still in the office on Friday afternoon because people really are enjoying being in the office,” Rhonda J. Tobin, the firm’s managing partner, said. “So we have seen an uptick.”

Tobin said it is too soon to know what long-term role the new offices — glass-enclosed offices flooded with natural light and stunning views of the city — will play in bringing in more of the firm’s staff of 230 in Hartford — 108 of them lawyers — for larger portions of the workweek…
