Freshman report: South Carolina vs. Akron

In the dominant 50-7 victory over Akron on Saturday night in Williams-Brice Stadium, South Carolina saw multiple true freshmen take the field and make an impact throughout the game with a few making their collegiate debuts, as well.

Offensively, South Carolina saw two true freshmen earn the start in Josiah Thompson at left tackle and Michael Smith at tight end. Thompson played 77 snaps while Smith caught one pass for three yards in 22 snaps. On defense, Dylan Stewart earned the start at EDGE once again and in 25 snaps played, he logged two tackles.

Wide receiver Mazeo Bennett turned in another strong performance as he caught a team-high five passes for 71 yards and one touchdown which came on a 30-yard strike from Robby Ashford towards the end of the first quarter for the Gamecocks’ second score of the night…
