KING OF PRISSIA, PA — The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) is poised to commence a comprehensive $2.6 million initiative aimed at enhancing safety for Vulnerable Road Users (VRU) across the Philadelphia region. This project, commencing next week, targets the reduction of serious injuries and fatalities among non-motorized roadway users, such as pedestrians and bicyclists, through an array of strategic safety improvements.
The endeavor encompasses the installation of reflective centerline and shoulder line striping, retroreflective advisory signage, speed cushions, delineator posts, and rectangular rapid flash beacons (RRFB). Moreover, PennDOT will deploy traffic calming strategies tailored to the specific context of urban roadways, focusing primarily on managing vehicular speed to safeguard non-motorized users.
Construction will begin with a northbound lane closure on U.S. 202 (Dekalb Street) between Roberts Street and Wood Street in Norristown, Montgomery County, scheduled from Monday, September 23, through Wednesday, September 25, between 9:00 AM and 3:00 PM.
