FIRST ALERT FORECAST: A few showers possible Monday, slightly higher rain chances ahead mid-week

LAKE CHARLES, La. (KPLC) – Rain looks limited again for Monday, but that’s before rain chances will increase a little heading into the middle of the week.

The upper-level high that gave us very warm and dry weather this past weekend is starting to weaken. It will still have enough influence on Monday to keep temperatures in the low 90’s for highs with heat indices near 100 degrees. We may have slightly higher chances for a couple stray showers, but rain looks unlikely away from those. We will then track more changes later this week.

Moisture begins to increase more Tuesday which will mean a few more showers may popup during the afternoon. The higher chances of rain still are expected for the Wednesday to Thursday time frame as a cold front begins to approach.

The front does not look overly strong, but it should be enough to bump up chances for some scattered showers or thunderstorms both days. With more clouds around, highs are expected to drop into the 80’s each day. And after the front moves through by Thursday night, lows will drop into the 60’s for most locations.

The front appears likely to play a factor in the tropics as well. Models agree that we’ll likely see tropical development occur in the northwest Caribbean Sea or southern Gulf by the middle of the week. Whatever forms is on track to drift northward into the Gulf. This is where that front comes into play. Since the front currently looks likely to make it near or through SWLA, whatever develops is more likely to move towards the central or eastern Gulf. This would mean a lower threat to SWLA. However, with there still not being a well-defined low, models still certainly could shift around with this over the next few days. So we’ll continue to watch how things progress early this week. For more details, go to:…
