Families of Victims Unite for National Day of Remembrance

PASADENA -Families of victims came together for the National Day of Remembrance on September 21, an event that showcased a community finding hope amid tragedy while shouldering the heavy responsibility of advocating for justice.

The event featured over 30 booths and focused on the themes of “Faith, Family, and Friends,” under the mantra, “One Love, One Family heals together. You are not alone.” Councilman Tyrone Hampton, one event sponsor, emphasized the importance of community involvement in healing and prevention efforts. “This day is about bringing people together, providing support, and offering resources that can make a real difference in the lives of those impacted by gun violence,” Hampton stated. 

Mothers of victims shared their stories at the event, highlighting the emotional toll of violence on their families. Angenette Morgan, who lost her daughter Raejonette Morgan, spoke about the tragic circumstances surrounding her daughter’s death. On July 2, Raejonette was found shot to death inside a car riddled with bullet holes near the West Athens neighborhood in South Los Angeles. The 22-year-old college student was rushed to a hospital, where she was pronounced dead two days later. Morgan talked about the pain of losing a child, stating, “This is a much different pain, to lose a child. I never want anyone to experience this.”…
