Joyce Childers

Heaven’s gates opened wide to welcome Joyce Carolyn Childers on September 21, 2024. She began her new life peacefully, surrounded by family in her home at 312 99 Island Rd. in Blacksburg, SC She was married to the late Glenn Wood Childers for 60 years and was the daughter of the late Pierce and Bell Northey Moss.

Born in Cherokee County, she was a graduate of Blacksburg High School and Howard’s Business College. Joyce returned to Blacksburg High School to serve as secretary until retirement. She was so proud of the many students she met there and truly enjoyed hearing about their accomplishments after graduation. Some of her most cherished friendships developed that time as well. Many of the faculty and staff became a second family to her and she loved them dearly.

Among the many family members left to cherish her memory are her son Alvin G. Childers and her daughter Carol C. Wilson, both of Blacksburg, SC as well as her grandson, Nolan T. Wilson (Jasmine) who was a true source of pride for her throughout her life, and her adored great grandchildren Barron, Emery and her new great granddaughter who is due to arrive in February. Also, her sister Selma M. Painter of Gaffney, SC and many nieces and nephews, whom she loved so very much. In addition to her hus- band and parents, she was preceded in death by her sisters, Diane M. Martin, Thelma M. Perry and a brother, Roy Dean Moss…
