DEC to Host Fish and Widlife Day in Chautauqua County

The New York State DEC Region 9 is seeking volunteers for its first ever Fish and Wildlife Day on Saturday, September 28th. Fish and Wildlife Day will offer service projects and educational workshops across the state, celebrating New York’s diverse wildlife and habitat and encouraging public involvement in fish and wildlife conservation. One of those events will be held at Tom’s Point in the Chautauqua Lake Fish and Wildlife Management Area from 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM in the towns of Ellery and North Harmony. The group will conduct basic trail maintenance along the foot trail, maintain bluebird and wood duck nest boxes, and inspect/maintain existing tree tubes on the Wildlife Management Area.

Registration is open for this event, which will be held rain or shine. Volunteers should sign up ahead of time at?Parks & Trails New York. Volunteers should dress for the weather and wear proper footwear/work boots, and long pants. Sunscreen and insect repellent are recommended. A bagged lunch and/or snacks and water are appropriate.
