PITTSBURGH — Do you remember Garbage Pail Kids? The trading cards were first released in 1985 and featured designs similar to Cabbage Patch Kids, but one reporter called them “ugly and nasty.”

Reporter Al McDowell took to the streets in 1986 to investigate the newest fad.

The cards, with names like “Patty Putty” and “Russell Muscle,” were popular among kids. “I even have a 5-year-old that’s starting to get into them,” one mother said…
