‘ShotSpotter’ under increased scrutiny as Cincinnati weighs $1 million annual renewal cost

CINCINNATI (WKRC) – As Cincinnati approaches the renewal of its contract with gunfire detection service ShotSpotter, other cities are dropping the service.

ShotSpotter costs Cincinnati nearly $1 million annually and has been in use since 2017. Vice Mayor Jan Michele Lemon-Kearney staunchly supports its continuation.

“When there’s a shooting, we want that solved. We want to know who did it and where it was done. We want police to be able to respond quickly to the site where it happens, and that’s what ShotSpotter allows us to do,” said Lemon-Kearney…
