13 people have drowned in area lakes this summer. The sheriff’s office now has a new tool to help bring closure to families.

PHOENIX — This summer, there have been 13 drowning deaths in Arizona lakes and rivers. Divers often face murky waters with zero visibility when recovering victims, which can make recovery operations difficult, and families wait in agony until their loved ones have been found.

The Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office now has a remote-operated underwater vehicle that it says can help tremendously in recovery operations.

“It’s a mission of ours, is to locate and recover everybody, to bring them home for their families,” Sergeant Jason Gilchrist with Maricopa County Lake Patrol said…
