Power outage forces huge delays on Caltrain’s first all-electric weekday

After celebrating the full-scale launch of its electric fleet over the weekend, Caltrain had to pause its services for more than an hour Monday afternoon because of a power outage, according to the rail service.

The $2.4 billion, all-electric fleet saw delays of up to 73 minutes, according to Caltrain Alerts . Caltrain spokesperson Dan Lieberman told SFGATE a “power-related incident” around 2:15 p.m. at San Mateo Station forced the shutdown. Trains began moving again about an hour later.

Lieberman said the incident’s cause was still under investigation but wrote, “It has been determined that the power outage is not related to any faults within Caltrain’s infrastructure or the new electric trains, but rather due to outside interference.”…
