Three Bay Area restaurants, plus two in Los Angeles, are considered among the best in the country, according to the New York Times.
In its annual The Restaurant List , which was released Tuesday, the Times listed the 50 best restaurants in the U.S., including San Francisco restaurants Four Kings and three Michelin-starred Quince. Alameda barbecue restaurant Fiskue also made the list, in addition to Los Angeles restaurants Camélia and Azizam. All five California restaurants were new to the list.
The Times highlighted Quince’s roasted spiny lobster as one of the dishes that represents chef-owner Michael Tusk’s talent for “cheffing and sourcing.” When it came to Four Kings, the Times said that its simple Sichuan cabbage, which is dusted with scallion powder, was “one of the best dishes” at the Cantonese restaurant. Of Fikscue, the Times said that the barbecue restaurant menu was unlike any other in the country, serving comfort food alongside Indonesian entrees like Sumatran beef noodle soup.
The New York Times ranking follows two recent best restaurant lists that also celebrated Fikscue and Four Kings. In late August, Texas Monthly honored Fikscue for its halal Texas-style barbecue and raved about the popular rendang plate that’s made with tender smoked brisket in slow-cooked curry.
