Man charged after assaulting two UT students near campus, Knoxville police say

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) – A man was arrested on Monday after authorities said he assaulted two students near the University of Tennessee campus.

According to the Knoxville Police Department, officers responded to the assault along Cumberland Avenue at 17th Street just before 9 a.m. on Monday.

After arriving on the scene, court records said a KPD officer saw one of the victims had a large cut above her eye and the suspect, 43-year-old Brad Collins, who was talking to officers with the University of Tennessee Police Department.

When officers asked Collins what happened, he said he was “mad and hungover,” according to court records. One of the victims then said Collins was walking in front of her when he stopped in front of University Liquors, and when she tried to walk around him, he hit her with a closed fist in the right eye…
