Indiana electric crews heading to Georgia to help in Hurricane Helene recovery efforts

CARMEL, Ind. (WAVE) – Indiana Electric Cooperatives announced crews and equipment are heading down south to assist with recovery efforts as Hurricane Helene has been causing power outages for many residents.

An estimated 40 lineworkers from 12 of Indiana’s electric cooperatives were meeting at Clark County REMC on Thursday to travel to Cobb EMC near Marietta, Georgia. By Thursday morning, Helene upgraded to a Category 2 hurricane.

The following electric cooperatives are helping:

  • Clark County REMC (Sellersburg)
  • Decatur County REMC (Greensburg)
  • Hendricks Power Cooperative (Danville)
  • Henry County REMC (New Castle)
  • Jay County REMC (Portland)
  • JCREMC (Franklin)
  • NineStar Connect (Greenfield)
  • Northeastern REMC (Columbia City)
  • Orange County REMC (Orleans)
  • RushShelby Energy (Manilla)
  • South Central Indiana REMC (Martinsville)
  • Tipmont (Linden)
