Hurricane Helene expected to make landfall in US soon. What that means for Raleigh area

Hurricane Helene is expected to make landfall in Florida on Thursday, Sept. 26, bringing heavy rain and strong winds throughout parts of the Southeast, including North Carolina.

The storm, which has been moving from the northeastern Yucatan Peninsula across the Gulf of Mexico, was named a Category 3 hurricane in the afternoon of Sept. 26, with sustained winds of up to 120 mph . Earlier Sept. 26, Helene was upgraded to a Category 2 hurricane.
