Land in nature preserve pegged for subdivision. Conservationists urge CT town to buy it.

With a New Britain developer trying to build a subdivision on private land within a Bristol nature preserve, conservationists are calling on the city to look into buying the property to preserve as open space.

Barring that, the Friends of the Hoppers-Birge Pond Nature Preserve wants the city to refuse the company’s request to use public parkland as an accessway for heavy equipment.

“The city of Bristol has no obligation to place the Hoppers in jeopardy or to diminish the value of their own property at the whim of a private developer who doesn’t even live in town,” the organization said in a recent letter to the city…
