“Yesterday at 8:40am, the New Bedford Fire Department responded to 281 Aquidneck Street for a reported structure fire.
A neighbor called 911 after hearing activated fire alarms sounding from this one-family residence. First arriving firefighters found smoke extending from the rear of residence and forced entry. A dog and several cats were able to escape to safety once firefighters entered the home and eeturned to their family.
The fire was confined to the kitchen area. The fire was investigated by the NBFD Fire Investigation Unit and determined the cause to be accidental. No injuries were reported.
