Carmel School District to offer Pre-K program

CARMEL – The Carmel School District, Putnam County’s largest, will begin offering pre-kindergarten in January.

Superintendent of Schools Dr. Erin Meehan-Fairben announced Wednesday that the Universal Pre-K initiative will be provided at no charge for children who live in the district and are four years old by December 1, 2024. The program will be funded by state and federal grants.

Meehan-Fairben said the district has “listened to residents and know there is a lot of interest in pre-kindergarten in the Carmel community. Now it’s time to work out the details – who, what, when and where of Carmel’s upcoming pre-k program. We already know the ‘why.’ Study after study has shown that students who attend pre-kindergarten are more likely to graduate high school and attend college.”…
