Greenwood Man Arrested After Fleeing Work Crew and High-Speed Crash in Delmar

The Delaware State Police have apprehended 33-year-old Clifford David of Greenwood, Delaware after he was involved in a severe crash in Delmar, leading to his arrest for multiple felony offenses. As per reports on the State Police website, the suspect had earlier absconded from a community corrections work crew.

It was on the night of September 24, 2024, when Delaware troopers rushed to a residence on the 16000 block of Whitesville Road to receive information about the fugitive. Fleeing from that location with a young woman and three children in a stolen Chevrolet Silverado, before the authorities’ arrival, they were notified about David’s actions. As reported by Delaware State Police, during the escape, he stopped to remove the children and was pulled back by the woman, save for the 7-year-old who was taken into custody by a witness.

The subsequent crash took place at August Road near Whitesville Road. David’s high-speed reckless driving led to a failure to negotiate a curve, resulting in the vehicle overturning after striking a ditch. The 25-year-old woman and two children, who were not restrained in the vehicle, were ejected and suffered serious injuries.
