Saraland-Montgomery Catholic game cancelled due to hurricane

Friday night’s football game between Montgomery Catholic and Saraland, both of which are ranked No. 1 in the state in their respective classes, has been cancelled due to risks caused by Hurricane Helene, the schools said Thursday.

The game was scheduled to be played at Spartan Stadium. The schools have been in constant contact with each other since Monday regarding Helene’s impact and the decision to cancel the game was mutual, according to Saraland City Schools Superintendent Dr. Brent Harrison and Montgomery Catholic President Justin Castanza.

The risk of uncontrolled circumstances negatively impacting preparation, travel and game play was too great for either team to risk, the schools said in a statement…
