Barbara Corcoran Hid Mother’s Alzheimer’s Battle for Years

Additional Coverage:

Barbara Corcoran, a renowned investor and television personality, recently revealed that she has long harbored a fear of developing Alzheimer’s disease, as her mother, Florence, was diagnosed with it in her late 60s.

After facing her fear and undergoing a medical evaluation earlier this year, Corcoran was relieved to receive a clean bill of health. This has allowed her to openly discuss her experience as Florence’s caregiver.

Florence’s symptoms began with memory loss, prompting her children to arrange for care, with Corcoran covering the financial expenses. Despite their support, her condition worsened, causing agitation and a shift in personality.

Corcoran shared that caring for her mother was both challenging and heartbreaking. She emphasized the importance of stepping into the loved one’s world and respecting their dignity.

Florence passed away 12 years ago after a nine-year battle with Alzheimer’s. Corcoran stresses the value of seeking support and joining forces with others when caring for a loved one with dementia.
