Enfield Mall plan on hold as developers reapply for state funding

ENFIELD, Conn. (WFSB) – The big plans to demolish and redevelop the Enfield Square Mall are now on hold indefinitely. The I-Team was the first to report earlier this week that the project did not receive the state funding required to move forward.

The Enfield Square mall has seen better days. The main part of it is around 85% empty. In April, an I-Team investigation uncovered the current owner, Namdar Realty, was sent a violation notice for not maintaining the property. However, in May, hopes for a new vision came to town.

A developer from Nebraska, Woodsonia Real Estate, wants to buy the mall, tear it all down except the Target, and build a mixed-use space of retail, restaurants, two hotels and 450 luxury apartments. However, the $250 million project is contingent on getting a $20 million grant from the state’s Community Investment Fund, called CIF for short…
