Voluntary evacuation order issued near Mountain Island Lake: What to know

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (WBTV) – A voluntary evacuation order was active Thursday evening for some areas near Mountain Island Lake, which was expected to overflow Thursday amid ongoing rainfall.

As of 7 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 26, the following areas near Mountain Island Lake were under the voluntary evacuation order:

  • Riverside Drive
  • Lake Drive
  • Riverhaven Drive
  • Parts of Hart Road

A voluntary evacuation order is essentially an evacuation recommendation for people affected. A voluntary evacuation order is not legally enforceable, compared to a mandatory evacuation order.
