Gwinnett emergency officials warn people to stay off roads

ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) – Gwinnett County leaders continue to brace for Hurricane Helene’s impact on the metro Atlanta area.

Atlanta News First met with officials on Thursday at the Gwinnett County Emergency Operations Center in Lawrenceville and they said they are worried that roadway conditions will only get worse as the outer bands of the Hurricane produce more heavy rainfall throughout the night.

“The National Weather Service doesn’t often use unprecedented event or that kind of terminology so the fact that this is a fast-moving strong system is of concern to them and of concern to us so we want people to take this extremely seriously and treat it with as much caution as they’re capable of. Make those preparations and don’t take any unnecessary risks,” Gwinnett County EMA Director Michael Shaw said…
