Golf scramble raises funds for youth programs

MANDAN, ND ( KXNET ) — Local golfers came out to take in the lovely early fall weather on Thursday, September 26, to tee-off at the Mandan Parks and Recreation Foundation’s 2nd Annual “Scramble for Scholarships” Golf Tournament to help kids in need in the community.

Around 130 golfers loaded their clubs and headed off to hit the links at Prairie West Golf Course to raise funds for Mandan Parks and Recreation’s youth programs. Money raised at the tournament will be used to fund discounted recreational activities for kids from families that would otherwise not be able afford to them.

Among the many activities Mandan Parks and Recreation offer for youth are basketball, volleyball and swim lessons throughout the year. Kelly Thomas, Community Engagement Manager of Mandan Parks & Recreation, says that each year, they use the money raised in the tournament to provide youth program scholarships to around 50 to 100 local kids from families who qualify.
