PITTSFIELD, Massachusetts (WABI) -The man charged with murdering a Bangor woman caused schools in Pittsfield, Massachusetts to go into lockdown Friday morning after stealing a car and leading police on a chase.
Police there say 42-year-old Richard Keith Thorpe, of Bangor, was arrested early Friday morning for multiple charges including the murder of 39-year-old Virginia Cookson who was found dead in her home on Larkin Street on Wednesday.
Pittsfield Police say around 4:00 a.m. on Friday, they responded to a single motor vehicle crash. They say no one was in the car but that items within it led them to believe that the operator may have been Thorpe.
Then around 7:00 a.m., they got a report of a stolen vehicle. They alerted police in the area to be on the lookout for the car. An hour and a half later they found the car and said the driver crossed the center divider, passed vehicles in a no-passing zone, and failed to stop for them…
