4 Aurora teens arrested on organized crime charges in connection to unsolved shootings

The Aurora Police Department arrested four teenagers earlier this month in connection to multiple unsolved shootings throughout the area.

Lennon Melgares, 18, of Edgewater, Xavier Chavez, 18, of Aurora, Jayden Velarde, 18, of Morrison, and a 17-year-old Lakewood teenager — who was not named due to being a minor — were arrested on state organized crime control charges on Sept. 5 and 6, according to a news release from the police department.

Investigators with the the Aurora police Crime Gun Intelligence Unit began reviewing unsolved shooting cases in April. Through the investigation and “self-developed ballistic evidence,” the department was able to connect multiple unsolved shootings in Aurora to others in Wheat Ridge and Lakewood, police said…
