A Springfield woman, Denise Guyette, has issued a guilty plea in federal court to charges that include distribution of a daunting amount of controlled substances. As reported by the U.S. Attorney’s Office, this plea addresses the indictment on conspiracy to distribute upwards of 400 grams of fentanyl and 500 grams or more of a substance containing methamphetamine.
The conspiracy encompassed a network that extended beyond Massachusetts, reaching into Rhode Island and Arizona. Guyette, 31, was implicated in the operation alongside co-conspirators Gerardo Garza, also known as “Oso,” of Yuma, Ariz., and Nathan Boddie of Pawtucket, R.I. A federal investigation that began in April 2022 unveiled a scheme where drugs were concealed within innocuous packages, such as children’s toys and holiday decorations, and shipped via mail for distribution. Her role in this nationwide plot is now bearing the weight of justice, with potential sentencing ranging from a minimum of 10 years to a life term in prison, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office.
The operation’s trail was scattered with disguised packages, seven of which were intercepted between May and October 2022. These parcels collectively contained over 900 grams of methamphetamine, thousands of counterfeit pills laced with fentanyl, and suspected Dimethyltryptamine (DMT), noted for its powerful psychedelic effects.
