Helene’s footprint: More than half the country has cloud cover from Helene

ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) — Helene made landfall as a powerful Category 4 hurricane late Thursday, but tropical systems can come in all shapes and sizes, and it’s not always directly correlated to the category.

Helene was strong, but Helene was also large.

Now interacting with an upper level low, the injection of Helene’s moisture has allowed for a remarkably large wingspan of cloud cover to develop.

Outflow clouds spread from east Texas all the way to Boston with clouds for many in between. In fact, at least 30 states dealt with at least some cloud cover sourced from Helene.
