MTSU Falls to Sam Houston

HUNTSVILLE, TEXAS — Middle Tennessee volleyball suffered a defeat to Sam Houston in the second match of the two-match series. The Blue Raiders fought hard until the end, forcing the third set to go to win-by-two, but could not finish the job. MTSU hit .391 as a team in the third set. The scores of the sets were as follows: 18-25, 22-25 and 27-29.

The Blue Raiders (4-10, 0-2) had done a great job serving in their last few matches, but the woes from the beginning of the season returned, as the Blue Raiders had 14 service errors to just three aces. The Blue Raiders fall to 0-7 when having less aces than their opponent. Sam Houston (7-6, 2-0) was able to capitalize as they only had six errors to four aces.

Offensively, junior Adriana Rhoda was the star of the night, recording 22 kills on a .474 hitting percentage, good for an outstanding 7.33 kills/set. The Hutchinson, Minn. native’s 7.33 kills/set set the new program-record during the 25-point era breaking Chelsea Ross’ record that has stood since 2015. Rhoda was on fire in the third set, recording 10 kills. Two other Blue Raiders had double-digit kills in Kiera Booth and Aowyn Schrader.
